Today I woke up to more snow on the ground and now it is icing and raining. Saturday and Sunday were in the 50's and I loved it. It really is funny how the weather affects my mood. Saturday and Sunday I was all happy and in a very good mood, life was looking up. Now today I just want to get back into bed and sleep all day but that would not be very productive. I was supposed to do a job up North today and tomorrow but just canceled until next week because I don't want to drive 2 hours one way on these slippery roads.
I should start building my chicken tractor so that when my chickens arrive I will be ready for them. Now if spring would just get here and the snow would just go away thing would be moving much quicker. We cooked up some bacon the other day and had some BLT's and they were very tasty. This is making me think that I will go ahead and raise a couple of pigs this year.
This blogging thing is new to me and I do not share it with my wife. If I did she would come in and look over my shoulder and complain and tell me that it is stupid and why are you doing that lol. I used to have an office in another town where I had all the privacy I wanted. When we purchased our house 3 or 4 years ago I moved my office into our basement, actually I took over the whole basement. The basement is a full daylight walkout with 3 full size windows. It is very nice and I am saving over $1000 per month but I really do miss my privacy.
My office almost allowed me to have another life sort of. I had two rooms with the front of the building being an office and the back was my workshop where I could repair my customers equipment. I had a huge overhead door that I could drive vehicles through which was really nice for the forklift and my Harley. I would wake up and go to work, have my coffee in peace and quiet without somebody opening my door and popping their head in every 5 minutes. After I woke up and returned calls I would go out and do some jobs, come back do paperwork, surf the web a little and then go home. If the family was driving me crazy I could just leave and go to the office for a little while to get away. I never really thought about how much I miss my shop.
I suppose I should go out and make some money while I can.
It is 9:30 on Saturday morning and I am still half asleep drinking a coffee. I woke up really stressed out today. When I was still sleeping my two young children decided they were going to wake up at like 6am. So from 6 until the time I decided to crawl out of bed I could hear them arguing. My son feels the need to tease his sister every morning which causes her to yell which annoys the whole family, especially me.
I am happy that it is warm outside and the snow is melting. It is much warmer outside than I thought it was, it is tee shirt weather in Maine. I suppose I should get some more paperwork done so that I am prepared for the accountant tomorrow.
Have a nice day!
I have not been on here in a while and I have some free time so why not add to my blog. The snow in Maine has been crazy. We just got like 8 to 12 inches yesterday and we got about two feet last week. I am glad spring is almost here since I broke my plow yesterday. I had to break out the shovel and that was a real bummer.
Everybody is worried about the economy lately and for good reason. If you do not already know, the economy is terrible. I have been in business since 1998 and have never seem anything like this. I am in the service business and I perform preventative maintenance and calibrations to various pieces of equipment at my customers locations. I have my jobs set up so that I perform these services quarterly or even monthly to keep everything working correctly. Recently I have been getting lots of calls from my customers to tell me they are cutting back and only need me once a year. This is unfortunate for me and my customers. For me I am loosing money and that is never good. The customer is sacrificing quality to save money but in the long run they will not save money because their product will suffer from the lack of quality.
Another issue I am having is getting paid on time. When I provide services to my customers I fill out a service report and have them sign it. When the job is complete I mail my customer an invoice and give them 30 days to pay and offer a discount if they pay me in ten days or less. This is how my world works and the bad thing is that if I get paid in 45 days I am doing good. Now that the economy has really tanked I have people taking 60, 90, 180 and longer to pay me. When I say people I mean large and small corporations. Anyways I guess all of this is the cost of doing business but it is really putting a strain on my cash flow.
I have been thinking about healthy food lately and would like to produce as much of my own food as I can. I have chickens for eggs and never really thought about fresh eggs. By the time eggs get to the supermarket they are not very fresh. When I break one of my eggs in the pan, the yolk stands right up and is a nice bright orange color. The eggs from the supermarket are not the same bright color and are real watery. You should get some fresh eggs from a farm sometime and do a comparison. You will be amazed at the difference between the two. I also plan on planting another huge garden this year that will be all natural without any pesticides.
I just ordered 25 meat meat chickens that will be here at the beginning of April. If you do not know what a meat chicken is, I will tell you. It is exactly what it sounds like. I am going to raise these chickens to eat and they will be all natural without any chemicals pumped into them. These chickens will also be raised in a more humane way than they would be at the big processors. The chickens will be a day or two old when I get them and will be ready to eat in about 8 weeks. Sorry if you don't eat meat but we do. After the chickens are all processed they will go into the freezer.
Maybe I am going overboard here but I am thinking about getting a couple of pigs to eat too. I will raise them from piglets up to about 200 pounds and then they will become all natural bacon, ham, pork chops, etc.. I will keep one pig for our needs and sell the other one to cut down on my overall costs.
I guess that is about it for now. Time for me to go jump in the hot tub and relax.
I have not been on here forever and planned on writing something on here on a regular basis. I guess I must be a busy guy. I have been working alot lately trying to make the big bucks. I actually got away for three days a couple of weeks ago for some training. I went down to Connecticut for the training and it was nice to get away. I have a couple of young children that I love to death but they can drive a man crazy sometimes. So the training session was a nice little vacation and the hotel was top of the line. When I checked in to the hotel and got to my room, the phone rings and it is the front desk, they were calling to make sure the room was to my satisfaction or something to that effect.. I guess I dont get out much but that was a first.
I have not had any training for work in like a million years and I always get offers to improve on what I have to offer my customers. This training will be very bennificial to me and it will allow me to offer something that not many other people can offer in Maine.
I went to a keg party over the weekend and it was pretty cool. I played beer pong for the first time. Beer pong is very fun. So I am kind of a piro, I really really like fire! We get to the party and there is this dinky little fire. My buddy invited me to a keg party with a bon fire. Well I did not consider what he had to be a bon fire, so me and my other buddy went over to help the fire out a little. Next to the fire is a pile of pallets that we took and put on top of the fire. We leaned the pallets against one another sort of like a tee pee that was four pallets thick standing on end on top of the existing fire. Then we threw two or three more pallets on top of those pallets. Before you could blink the flame was 20 feet in the air! This thing was fucking awesome! Right about then when i was enjoying all the heat, I noticed that my buddy built his fire pit right next to a tree. I did not see this tree when I was fueling this huge blaze. I am sure you can guess what happened next. First just about all the leaves disappeared off of the tree. Next the whole trunk of the tree starts smoking. Now this tree is huge like way bigger than a house in height and probably about as fat around as well i could wrap my arms around the tree, it is that big lol. Anyway after the smoke the tree suddenly bursts into flames from the ground and up the tree about ten feet. Now I am just staring at this just about ready to shit my pants and people start throwing their beers on the tree to put it out. My buddy runs into the woods and comes back with a kids pail full of water to throw on the tree but by the time he got to the tree the pail was empty because it had a hole in it. Now I am thinking we are going to burn a whole forest down and I was just thinking holy shit!!! Finally someone found a hose and put the tree out. This was the first time I ever went to this guys house for a party. I did not put anything else on that fire for the rest of the night lol. I wonder if I will be invited to the next party lol.
Thats about it for now.
Peace out duders!
Today I got up and loaded a flat screen LCD tv into my car and drove down to Manchester, NH to return the tv to my brother. I was in Manchester about 3 weeks ago for my friends 40th surprise birthday party. After partying and waking up in the hotel we went to visit my brother his wife and my 5 nieces that I never see. So when we get there he has a couple of new tv's still in the box that he got from someone who owed him money. My brother is a wheeler and a dealer. So when I left his house I left with a tv and told him I would mail him a check. Now the tv cost $600.00 and I need it like I need a hole in the head. I figured that I would hang the tv on the wall in my bedroom. The drive home is two hours and I am thinking all the way home how I really should not have bought the tv but oh well.
I get home and look at my funds which I should have done before telling my brother I will send him a check and decide I am to broke to waste $600. on something i do not need. I call him up and tell him and he says whatever I want to do, return the tv or pay him whenever I have the money. So screw it I mail him a check for $200. and figure I will mail the rest later in the week. I have the tv for like 3 weeks and it is still in the box unopened. The next day I get the check back in the mail that I sent him. I sent the check to the wrong address, I was off by like one number. You would think the mailman would know where the mail goes but nooo. So I decided again screw it I am giving the tv back.
Wow two paragraphs about a stupid tv lol.
I am hatching some guinea eggs in a incubator. This is a first but it will be fun for the kids and me.
Ok I guess that is all I have to say about my boring life for now.
Two weeks ago I had like four feet of snow in the back yard. The snow was so bad that I actually had thoughts about moving somewhere warm like South Carolina or Florida. All of a sudden we are getting hot days and I love it except for my new sunburn lol. I guess I was in the sun a little to long for the first time out this year. So since it is nice out I decide to break out the motorcycle and scream up and down the roads like a madman. The bike is extremely loud and I am sure some of the neighbors do not love me. Oh well you cant have everybody love you.
Last night we went over to our friends house and grilled and had a few drinks. As the night progressed we lit a huge fire in their fire pit and jammed out to 80's music all night lol. The fire was huge and we even burned their Christmas tree that was still in their yard. The last fire we had over their house was huge too. When we ran out of wood, we went down to my house and grabbed some huge barn doors and burned them. I love fire, lets burn somethin!
I spent most of the day today raking my flattened lawn. When we bought our house we had a dinky backyard. I could not have a crappy yard now! So last year I cut down trees brought in fill by the dump truck load and made myself a real yard. Anyways my arms hurt from raking all day so I have to go and drink a few beers and look at a few sites online. I guess I should put a picture of my little yard on here
.
Ok this blog stuff is all new to me. I have been following a couple of blogs and decided to start one. So where do I start? First of all I think I am turning into a hillbilly lol. I live in Maine and have lived here since 1993. Before moving here I lived in Manchester, NH and was a Harley riding, drinking, smoking, partying horndog lol. I am still a horndog, still drink beer but in moderation and do a shot once in a while. I dont smoke anymore and have recently got rid of the Harley's. I do still have a bike, it is a 1998 Suzuki GSXR 750. I like to go fast and my Road King only went about 110 miles per hour. this new bike is a rocket, very fast.
Back to being a hillbilly lmao. My interests seem to have changed a little. Before I go any further I am 35 years old but still think and feel like 22. So i am into growing stuff now, legal stuff. I am looking forward to planting my garden now that the snow is melting. I like growing a garden because it is cool to put healthy food on the table that I grew. I also got some chickens so that I can get fresh eggs. I am thinking about goats too. The reason for the goats is that we drink alot of milk and if goat milk tastes good then I can produce my own milk.
Now that I find myself outdoors more these past few years I realized that we have a shitload of ticks. I hate ticks they are nasty. To get rid of the ticks I got some guinea hens. Guinea hens are a cool looking bird that will actually rid my property of ticks. I have 5 acres so this year we will see how they do.
I guess this is a good start for now. I heard that a blog sucks without pictures so I will see if I can figure out how to put one on here. Here is a picture of one of my tick eating guineas.
